Achieving gender equity is critical to improving the health and wellbeing of individuals.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure development is a key driver for progress across the African continent and a critical enabler for productivity and sustainable economic growth. Better quantity and quality of infrastructure can directly raise the productivity of human and physical capital and hence growth. Despite the gains registered in improving regional infrastructure connectivity Africa still faces serious infrastructure shortcomings across all sectors, both in terms of access and quality.

Tourism

LGAF seeks to promote African positive policy changes coupled with increased investments in the sector, to make Africa a more attractive destination for tourists.

Agriculture & Rural Community Planning

LGAF aims at a greater and sustainable productivity, better market information, comprehensive rural development and agricultural policies, sustained investments that enables agricultural producers to increase production, enhance their income and improve supply of food missions and improves food security.

LGAF believes that Rural Planning should be part of  rural comprehensive plans. Generation of knowledge and  development of plans will advance the welfare, sustainability and integrity of rural communities with agriculture as the main stay of the rural economies.

Food Security

With low agricultural production  due to drought coupled with poor storage, food  lost or wasted. LGAF seeks ways to improve harvest share a shining spotlight  and awareness on on Food Security in Africa.

Climate Change

LGAF concentrates on transdisciplinary research providing knowledge to understand, mitigate, and adapt to global environmental change. This includes the following:

  • Climate, environment, and health
  • Disaster risk reduction and resilience
  • Resilience in rapidly changing coastal systems
  • Freshwater security
  • Coastal vulnerability
  • Food security and land use change
  • Climate predictability and inter-regional linkages
  • Biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Social Protection

Effective social protection is now at a center stage in policies. Gripped by an economic downturn, African countries are not spared from unanticipated economic shocks and unmet expectations for good jobs. Fraught with risk, LGAF plans to assist African countries in delivering on this promise for all their citizens to ensure access to jobs and opportunities, and in global knowledge of effective social protection approaches through evidence based knowledge programs.

Energy & Power Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa power sector is underdeveloped, namely, energy access, installed capacity, or overall consumption. With changing industrial economy and the need for improved agricultural products, LGAF supports a greater regional integration, varied alternative sources of energy and a push for renewable (geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind).

Urbanization

Urban growth in Africa plays a critical role in fighting poverty and sustaining economic growth. Population growth in cities are caused by in-migration from rural areas. The need for an urbanization strategy and an opportunity for economic growth in cities due to immense demographical shift is a major focus of LGAF.
